Herbert Presidential Scholars

Benefits of the Award

Awards vary by campus but will be renewable for four years. Herbert Presidential Scholars may choose any major offered at the Indiana University campus that they are attending. Each scholar works with an advisor to design a course of study that takes into consideration the individual student's abilities, interests, and goals.

Indiana University's Herbert Presidential Scholars receive:

  • A Herbert Presidential Scholar medallion to be presented at the student's high school awards night and worn at graduation
  • A choice of a Dell (Dell Warranty) or Apple (Apple Care Plan) laptop computer with software, wireless capability, and virus protection
  • An additional $1,000 to be used for study abroad during junior or senior year
  • Close interaction with faculty, academic and career mentoring, and frequent contact with distinguished visitors to the university
  • Opportunities for internships, research, and community service

Herbert Presidential Scholars will meet with the president of Indiana University each year and have opportunities to interact closely with campus chancellors, vice presidents, and nationally known speakers, scholars, and special guests.
