Abstract: "In this article we explore the idea that co-management and self-management are not merely matters of wildlife use. Indeed, self-management is at the core of the social and economic health of many native communities, and is tied to larger questions of self-government. Thus, the co-operative management of resources becomes a key issue (since wildlife has been so important in the tradition economy) in the implementation of principles of environmentally sustainable, culturally appropriate economic development."
