The International Association for the Study of Common Property (IASCP) in association with the Australian Property Institute (Queensland Division) is holding its inaugural Pacific Regional Meeting on September 2-4, 2001 in Brisbane, Australia at the Queensland University of Technology.
The purpose of this inaugural Regional Meeting is to provide a comparison
of regional common property resources (CPR's), and has the following
theme:
Tradition and Globalisation: Critical issues for the accommodation of
CPR's in the Pacific Region.
The IASCP Pacific Region includes both small nations, remnants of colonial empires, and medium sized nations, all of which are experiencing unprecedented development stresses upon both local and regional CPR's. It is a region which is characterized by vast tracts of maritime CPR's, whilst the significantly smaller terrestrial resources are being utilised in an unsustainable manner.
The attached draft program will enable delegates to hear a wide range of views on critical issues for CPRs in the Pacific Region, with papers presented by leading practitioners and academics over two days (3-4 September) . A welcome reception will be held on the evening of 2 September at which the IASCP President Susan Hanna will formally open the Pacific Regional Meeting. There will be ample opportunity for delegates to share their experiences, or to act as Session Chairs or discussants.
