Leading Edge Chair

Cultures and Ecosystems at Risk

 

 

The School of Environmental Studies, in the Faculty of Social Sciences, invites applications for the Leading Edge Chair in Cultures and Ecosystems at Risk. The successful candidate will be someone with an international reputation, outstanding research, teaching and communications skills, with vision and experience around the world and commitment to working in British Columbia. The chairholder would introduce a worldwide comparative approach, incorporating or accommodating multi-disciplinary specialties, focusing on, among others, ethnoecology, as well as environmental studies, geography, anthropology, biology, indigenous studies, education, linguistics, and health. The chairholder’s goal will be to develop a research and teaching program on the strategies, capacities and knowledge required to collaborate with and support cultures at risk, especially working with vulnerable peoples to protect their language, knowledge and practices within a global cultural context. It is vital for the chairholder to instill public commitment and interest in cultures and ecosystems at risk, and to place this issue firmly in the public consciousness and onto the public policy agenda. This position is subject to funding.
