Modern Scandinavia and the Baltic States

This course is a survey of the history of the Scandinavian and Baltic States since the 18th century. The emphasis will be on a comparative approach, seeking to identify uniformities and differences in development. Along with political and socio-economic developments, culture will also receive extensive treatment.

Requirements: a mid-term and final exam, both of the essay type; a comparative essay using various literary sources from Scandinavia and the Baltic States.
