Uyghurs and Russian Borderlands During the Bolshevik Revolution

On Friday, September 8, 2017, Ablet Kamalov from Turan University in Almaty Kazakhstan gave a talk entitled "Uyghurs and Russian Borderlands During the Bolshevik Revolution." The well-attended talk was sponsored by the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center and the Pan-Asia Institute.

The lecture, entitled, “The Soviet Union as the Land of Paradise: Reconsidering the Uyghur Exodus in the 1950s and 1960s from China to Soviet Central Asia,” was presented by Dr. Gulnisa Nazarova, the John D. Soper Senior Lecturer of Uyghur Language at Indiana University – Bloomington. The lecture was presented as part of the IAUNRC’s Graduate Student Brown Bag series on October 27, 2016.

On October 7, 2016, Dr. Silvina Montrul gave a lecture entitled "The Acquisition of "Other" "Different"  "Lesson Common"  "Distant" Languages: A Critical Need."  She presented at IU's Second Conference on Central Asian Languages and Linguistics (ConCALL-2). Professor Montrul received her PhD in Linguistics from the Department of Linguistics at McGill University.
