Türkmen Job Opportunity at NFLC

The National Foreign Language Center (NFLC) at the University of Maryland is currently seeking native speakers of Turkmen with a background in linguistics to assist us with the development of interlinear glosses, a detailed translation.

 

The work is paid by the task, part-time, completed entirely online, and should require less than 20 hours a week.

Language SME Qualifications:

1.       Native or near-native fluency in the target language

2.       High level of fluency in English.

3.       Permission to work in the country of residence.

4.       Translation and transcription experience.

5.       Willing and able to learn and adhere to NFLC guidelines and procedures.

6.       Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate professionally with NFLC staff and other consultants.

7.       Excellent command of MS Word and the ability to follow technical directions.

8.       Ability to provide high quality reviews of language learning or assessment material.

9.       Ability to complete tasks on time and meet quality standards.

10.   Preferred background in linguistics.

11.   Preferred experience in adult foreign language education.

12.   Preferred knowledge of and experience with Inter-Agency Language Roundtable (ILR) scale.

 

 

Target Language Expert (Interlinear Gloss Developer):

$3,500 per client-accepted interlinear gloss.

 

General Description:

•         Follow NFLC requirements and guidelines to develop a detailed interlinear gloss.

•         Provide linguistic information and explanations as requested.

•         Revise the interlinear gloss and answer all NFLC questions until the final product is approved by the client. Numerous inquiries and revisions should be expected.

•         Revise and/or reformat the final test product as needed.

 

Target Language Reviewer (Interlinear Gloss Reviewer):

$1,000 per client-accepted interlinear gloss.

 

General description:

•             Review the interlinear gloss for accuracy and adherence to NFLC guidelines.

•             Provide linguistic information and explanation as requested.

•             Revise the interlinear gloss as needed and answer all NFLC questions until the gloss is accepted by the client. Numerous inquiries and revisions should be expected.

•             Revise and/or reformat the final test product as needed.
