GRADUATE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FROM THE RUSSIAN STUDIES WORKSHOP

Call for Applications! Summer Research Laboratory 2017

The Eurasia Foundation, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the American Councils for International Education are partnering to facilitate the USA Pavilion Student Ambassadorship program at Expo 2017 (World's Fair) in Astana, Kazakhstan. Student Ambassadors are young people who will serve in a number of capacities to host the hundreds of thousands of guests who are expected to visit the Pavilion and to interact with the millions of guests who will attend the Expo.

We are pleased to announce the forthcoming National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute for College and University Teachers: Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia: The Voices of Women in Literature, Cinema and Other Arts since Independence, a three-week program to be held June 26 – July 14, 2017 at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. Please see the attached flyer and share widely with others who might be interested in applying.

The Woolf Institute is delighted to announce the launch of its second new online course for 2017 – Interreligious Understanding Today will provide a forum in which participants will:

passionate about sharing with others the Middle Eastern culture!
March 31 (10:00am - 2:00pm) and April 1 (10:45a.m.-3:30p.m.)
Activities:
 Help with the Calligraphy table, writing children’s names and common words in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Turkish, or Kurdish.
 Help with the Activity table, assisting children in completion of numerous Middle Eastern-related crafts and answering questions related to the area and culture.

Abstracts due February 6th! Please join us for the 24th Annual Central Eurasian Studies Conference that will be held on March 3rd-4th, 2017 at Indiana University in Bloomington. Students, faculty, and independent scholars are cordially invited to submit abstracts of papers addressing all topics pertaining to Central Eurasian Studies by February 6th, 2017. Please send abstracts (.pdf or .docx) of no more than 500 words to aces@indiana.edu.

We are writing to share information about an exciting new initiative that is now available to IUB faculty and students: Diplomacy Lab. Diplomacy Lab links university research (mainly through class projects) to real-world international diplomacy problems posed by organizations and embassies within the U.S. State Department. As of fall 2016, IUB has been designated as an official Diplomacy Lab institution. In spring 2017 we had full participation in this initiative with 8 projects across campus units.

Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant Spotlight
Alisher Khamidov

On September 1, 2017, the IAUNRC sat down to speak with Alisher, the 2017-2018 FLTA from Uzbekistan. Alisher will assist Dr. Hodjaev with teaching Uzbek language classes for the 2017-2018 Academic Year. These classes are offered through the Department of Central Eurasian Studies.
