IAUNRC Outreach
The Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center's active and growing outreach program serves several vital constituencies. The Center is creating new curriculum materials for teaching about Central Eurasia at the elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels. Center faculty also have an outstanding record of service to government, business, philanthropic organizations, as well as to other post-secondary institutions. In addition, many of the Center's most successful outreach activities enable us to share our resources with the general public and build a broad awareness of the increasingly important world area on which we focus.
The IAUNRC brings together experts and teaching resources on a tantalizing diversity of countries and regions in Central Eurasia: Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan), Tibet, and Mongolia. Some of these areas are prominent in the news today: the increasing importance of oil-rich Central Asia and the controversy surrounding the Dalai Lama and Tibet's struggle for independence from China, for instance. Others are less familiar, but incredibly interesting, lands for your students to "explore" for the very first time. The IAUNRC can work with you to develop classroom materials and activities on any of these regions and on virtually any subject area, including music, politics, geography, art, history, and daily life. Please contact Kasia Rydel-Johnston, the IAUNRC assistant director and outreach coordinator, at (812) 855-7319 or via e-mail at iaunrc@indiana.edu to discuss ways to bring the wonders of Central Eurasia into your classroom. The IAUNRC also maintains a lending library of language instruction materials, film, music and literature on these regions. To receive a list of such materials, please e-mail iaunrc@indiana.edu.
