Unfortunately,
the Purdue Union is fully booked for Friday,
April 1 because of several competing functions. Susie Shelton has found
that the Hilton Garden Inn on the “Levee” east
of campus has available rooms, with a rate of approximately $120,
including
breakfast. This is a brand new hotel beside a Border’s Bookstore, a
Starbucks,

KEYNOTE
ADDRESS: Philip De Souza, Senior Lecturer of Classical
History, Classics Department, University College Dublin, "Were There
Pirates in the Ancient Mediterranean World?" A reception
will
follow.
Professor DeSouza is a noted
authority on ancient piracy and
the Roman maritime world (see his monograph, Piracy in the Graeco-Roman World (Cambridge U. Press, 1999)). To
welcome Dr. DeSouza, we are requesting that all “pirates” dress in
appropriate attire.
The lecture is open to the public.
Seats for ICC members and suitably dressed pirates will be reserved at
the front of the hall. There will be a reception (snacks and soft
drinks) in the room, served by the students of the Purdue Classical
Association.
The lecture (as well as the Saturday panels) is being sponsored by the Purdue IDIS Program in Classical Studies, the
Departments of Foreign Languages and Literature and History, the IDIS Jewish Studies Program, and the Purdue Classical
Association, and the Central Indiana Chapter of the AIA.
Saturday's ICC session will begin at 9:00 AM in the MATH Building, Room 175.

workshops.

There is parking across
the street at the Purdue Visitor’s Center. The lecture hall is on the
main floor,
directly inside from the door facing the mall.
Saturday
morning 9 AM, Rm 175 Math Building, Panel Session. Math Building is set
back from University
Street. There is a parking deck across the street at the
light. Rm 175 is directly inside at ground level on the
building’s north side (this high-rise building has a strange open causeway; from
University St. the room is on
the left as you approach).

Purdue Memorial Union is on State St (Ind. Rt. 26) and Earl. There is a
