Faculty Laptop Program

Application Deadline:
Friday, September 12, 2008

Do you have an idea for an instructional or research project that requires or can be enhanced by the use of technology?

The Office of Instructional Consulting and the School of Education are pleased to announce another phase of Indiana University School of Education Faculty Laptop Program (FLP).  The first stages of this program ran from 2003-6 and was very successful; hundreds of hours of technology training were delivered to School of Education faculty and staff, and 78 laptops were provided for their use in teaching and research.

For the next academic year, faculty are invited to participate in this program.  Acceptance in the FLP will be awarded to faculty members that submit project plans that seek to enhance learning, research, and/or service through use of technology. Examples of possible technologies utilized in these projects include, but are not limited to: online course components (including Oncourse CL-based activities), simulations and games, web presentations (including use of Adobe Connect or Skype), blogging, podcasting, wikis, graphic design, digital video, two-way interactive video, use of databases, applications of Web 2.0 technologies, and use of clickers.

Technology support project proposals should be one to at most two pages in length and

  • Address one or more identified instructional/research/service needs or opportunities to use technology;
  • Identify the course(s) in which the project will be used (if applicable);
  • Indicate any new technology (hardware and software) that is being requested;
  • Indicate existing technology (hardware and software) that will be utilized;
  • Explain how and what students will learn or otherwise benefit from (if applicable);
  • Be clear why the requested technology is better than existing technology for accomplishing project goals;

As a part of the FLP process, Faculty participants will be expected to:

  • Devote 16 clock hours to focused training in technology;
  • Participate in an initial orientation and planning meeting with a consultant from the Office of Instructional Consulting, in which the training options will be discussed;
  • Follow the technology training plan set up with the consultant, or get approval in advance for program changes.

The FLP application deadline is Friday, September 12, 2008. Selections will be announced by Friday, September 19, 2008.
