Planning - Syllabus

The syllabus is the most crucial document of any online course because it provides general information about it as well as specifies the activities that students will be expected to do in order to succeed in the course. A syllabus stands as a contract between the instructor and students thus it is critical that the syllabus contains all the components, policies, and regulations of the course.

Producing a syllabus is the culmination of a deep and thorough planning process which includes:
  • Identifying course objectives based on your students’ characteristics
  • Identifying resources to fulfill the course objectives (textbooks, articles, videos, papers, simulations, etc.)
  • Planning assignments and activities that will provide opportunities for students to apply the knowledge and skills to master
  • Identifying ways to assess whether students have achieved the expected knowledge and skills
