Syllabus Workshop 2003


The purpose of this workshop is to help university instructors prepare a pedagogically sound, informative, and complete syllabus.

Goals and Objectives:

  • Provide a “map” of your course for students
  • Articulate specific aims and objectives for the course
  • Identify the relationship between course objectives, course content, and course activities
  • Serve as an advance organizer for course sequencing
  • Communicate contact information
  • Identify resources for your course
  • List rules and policies for your course
  • Provide important deadline dates for major course assignments and activities
  • Provide an archive of your course for portfolio purposes
  • Serve as a contract between you and your students
