The Computer
The information from the sensors, the glasses and the wand are sent back to the computer which runs the CAVE, a Silicon Graphics system running with six 195 megahertz processors and two graphic engines. The system can display 22 million polygons per second, but John Hoffman, the VR facilities systems administrator said once all of the images are programmed in twice -- once for each eye -- that is not as much as it sounds.
The images are displayed using a browser made by the Electronic Visualization Lab at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
