MISSION The Institute for Development Strategies (IDS), sponsored by the School of Public & Environmental Affairs, the Office of Research, and the University Graduate School, is a university-wide research program linking faculty resources from various departments and campuses and integrating them with external projects and research being undertaken elsewhere in this country and in other countries. The IDS is concerned with the links between globalization, entrepreneurship, and the strategic management of regions to promote economic development. The main mission of the IDS is to provide a focal point for systematic scholarly research, teaching and service involving the role of entrepreneurship policy within the context of economic development, and to create an intellectual framework and approach to launch entrepreneurship policy as a bona fide field of research and scholarship. Creating the field of entrepreneurship policy spans a number of traditional units of analysis. At one level, entrepreneurship involves the decisions and actions of individuals. These individuals may act alone or within the context of a group. At another level, entrepreneurship involves units analysis at the levels of the firm and industry, but also government and non-profit organizations, as well as at spatial levels, such as cities, regions and countries. Thus, the links between public policy, society and entrepreneurship are analyzed from a wide range of scholarly and policy approaches. The anticipated result emerging from the research undertaken by IDS will be unified and coherent scholarly field of entrepreneurship policy.
