Process of design

Design processes for software are frequently characterized as either linear and iterative ... the emphasis in linear design is on tight specification and efficiency; in iterative design the emphasis is on speed, early testing of prototypes, and ultimate fit with the needs and capabilities of the end user.
Exploring User-Centered Design, by Cathrine Spiaggia and Elizabeth Boling, is a series of web-based slides for a basic overview of the iterative design process with emphasis on usability methods.
