“What Are Green Events at the IMU?”
At the Indiana Memorial Union, we want to help provide you with a memorable and meaningful event. Green Events at the IMU keeps this in mind while creating the best event possible—not only for you but for the Bloomington community and environment.
Green Events at the IMU take into consideration the environmental impact made by hosting events. While working with the IU Office of Sustainability, we have created options for you to create an environmentally and fiscally sound event. To find out more and certify your Green Event click here.
Green Initiatives at the IMU
The Indiana Memorial Union is continually working to implement sustainable initiatives. By becoming more eco-friendly, the IMU aspires to support the local Bloomington community and their customer’s choices. Here are some ways the IMU is contributing to the community and benefitting you.
The IMU is currently implementing Sodexo’s Sustainability Management and Reporting Tool to reduce waste, water and energy usage. In addition, the SMART tool is being used to increase local purchasing as well as mindfulness of health and wellness.
The IMU not only sources fresh produce but also composts with the student-run Hilltop Garden.
The Sodexo Flavours menu offers seasonal meals options that fit any type of event
Sodexo recently signed a Food Chain Transparency Agreement, creating opportunities for students to work with Sodexo to track what amount of “real food” is being purchased and consumed.
Leftover food from the IMU kitchens are donated daily to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank.
Aspretto is Sodexo’s ethical and sustainable global coffee brand. Everything that touches the product is green, from the 10% post-consumer fibers cups to the renewable resource stirrers to the fair trade sugar wrapped in recyclable paper and printed with vegetable dye.
Marine Stewardship Council and Best Aquaculture Practices
Sodexo is striving to meet the standards of these two certifications by offering 100% sustainable seafood by the year 2015.
