Club News
After an unusually warm February things are really starting to heat up for the Indiana Men’s Volleyball Club. Both teams have three tournaments left this year with the road ending in Kansas City for the NCVF National Tournament.
The club has been undergoing a technological revolution recently. In January the official club Twitter account was created (@IU_MensVball), and currently the website is being redone. Head Project Developer Tim Rast has been working around the clock to give our site a new look. The website should be completed by the end of this week. Any feedback, positive or negative, would be appreciated to help make our site user friendly.
A Team News
IU-A has competed in two tournaments so far this semester, and has gotten better each time. On February 10 & 11, the Hoosiers traveled to Waukegan Park District Fieldhouse to participate in the Big 10 Round Robin. IU-A started the weekend with wins over Purdue and Minnesota. The Hoosiers then dropped a tough 3-set match against Wisconsin. Indiana got back on the winning track by defeating the Wolverines of Michigan before dropping their next two matches against Iowa and Ohio State. Wins against Northwestern and Michigan State and a loss to Illinois gave the Hoosiers a 5-4 record to end the weekend.
Next IU-A traveled to the University of Illinois for the Hoosier-Illini Classic. Because of the fire in the HPER over the summer, we had to find a different location for this year’s tournament, and luckily Illinois was able to host for this year. The Hoosiers rolled through pool play going 3-0 defeating Missouri, Adrian College, and UW-Milwaukee. The challenge round had the Hoosiers squaring off against Illinois. Indiana scratched and clawed their way to a 3-set win over the Illini. In the first round of the Gold Bracket, IU-A fell to Michigan State.
For the rest of the semester, IU-A will travel to Ohio State on February 10 for the Big Ten Championships, Ohio Northern for the MIVA Conference Tournament, and Nationals in Kansas City.
B Team News
Indiana B has had a lighter schedule so far this semester than in past years. With the fire in the HPER, we were not able to host our usual DII play day, and the conference had trouble finding other schools to host events. At the Hoosier-Illini, the Hoosiers started the weekend by falling the Virginia Tech and Ohio Northern. IU-B rebounded with a win over Marquette setting up a challenge round match against Michigan State. The Hoosiers played tough, but fell to the Spartans. A win would have given IU-B a spot in the gold bracket. In the silver bracket, Indiana lost to Gran Valley State in three sets. On March 3rd the Hoosiers traveled to Earlham College for their first of two play days. The Hoosiers fell to Purdue and Ohio State in 3 sets each time. It was a tough weekend, but the potential that the team has was shown.
Up next for IU-B is a trip to Adrian College for their second play day. IU-B will end the year at Ohio Northern for the MIVA Championships and then head to Kansas City for Nationals.
