Life History Studies

Northern clearwater crayfish Orconectes propinquus

The Center supports life history studies for crayfish as part of the Crayfishes of Indiana project. Aspects of the life history of all Indiana species will be studied for age and growth, fecundity, and early life history. The Center has supported the completion of detailed studies of the rusty crayfish Orconectes rusticus, virile crayfish Orconectes virilis, northern clearwater crayfish Orconectes propinquus, Indiana crayfish Orconectes indianensis, karst crayfish Cambarus tenebrosus, cavespring crayfish Cambarus laevis, painted-hand mudbug Cambarus polychromatus , and Great Plains mudbug Cambarus cf sp. diogenes or Cambarus (Lacunicambarus) species "A". These studies will be published through the Aquatic Research Center's Miscellaneous Papers of the Indiana Biological Survey Aquatic Research Center.
