Division of Fishes ProjectsFishes of Indiana
The State of Indiana has 211 fish species that were know to inhabit the States political boundaries. A list of fish species has been published in the Revised Checklist of Indiana Vertebrates. The fishes within the State of Indiana have been well-studied. The first fish records were collected from New Harmony in 1819. Records and voucher specimens maintained by world-wide museums and recent specimens collected by Indiana Biological Survey staff, Brant E. Fisher, and State agencies have been assembled for the first time into a comprehensive treatise. This much anticipated book will document the changes in species distributions and summarize for the first time all available information based on Indiana data and material. Illustrations for the book are being completed by the well-known fish illustrator, Joseph Tomelleri. |
