| Q: I will graduate middle school in June. Am I eligible to apply for the program? A: Yes, you are. Incoming high school freshman can apply for the program. |

| Q: What are the costs and fees for the program? A: As long as you are not taking the course for credit, the program is free. There are no fees for the program. You will receive a scholarship of $ 1,100 which will be used to pay for lodging and meals. You will also receive a textbook and other learning materials for free. |

| Q: What sort of supervision is provided to keep track of high school students who participate in the program? A: There are three resident assistants, one male and two females, who will live in the residential hall and supervise the students |

| Q: I live in Bloomington. Do I have to live in the residential hall? A: No, you don’t need to. If you live in Bloomington, you can commute from your home to school. You will be given a stipend to pay for lunch throughout the program. |

| Q: I participated in SIPHUR 2008. Will I be learning the same thing all over again? A: No, classes will be offered at two levels: beginning and intermediate. Those who participated in the program last year or who have already have some knowledge of the target language will be interviewed on the first day of class, and will be placed in an appropriate class. |

| Q: Will I be receiving credit for taking part in this program? A: No, you will get a certificate that says you completed a course that is equivalent to one semester of university-level instruction in the language. If you are in Intermediate Hindi/Urdu class, you will receive a certificate that you completed two semesters of university-level instruction in Hindi/Urdu. |

| Q: Is there any way that I can receive credit by participating in the program? A: Yes, there is. You can receive 5 credits by formally registering for this course. This means that you need to pay for the tuition fee. If you want to register for the course you need to first be selected for the program. Then you must send an e-mail to indiast@indiana.edu expressing your interest in taking the course for credit. Even if you don’t receive credit, you will greatly benefit from learning the language. First, you can take the Hindi/Urdu Proficiency Test conducted by the India Studies Program at IU and fulfill the foreign language requirement at your high school by passing the test (This applies to Indiana residents only). If you successfully retain the linguistic skills acquired from the program until you enter IU, you can be placed in an appropriate class by taking the Hindi/Urdu Placement Test conducted by India Studies Program. If you go to another College/University where Hindi/Urdu is offered, you can take the Hindi/Urdu Placement Test administered by the College/University, and will be placed in an appropriately leveled class. |
