Top Ten Ways To Be "ARLISIAN" At The 2009 "Circle City Convergence"
#10 Be Generous
Contribute to the Silent Auction and bid generously and enthusiastically, especially at the Silent Auction Finale on Sunday Morning
#9 Be a Mentor
Give back to the profession by participating as a mentor in this year's ARLIS/NA Career Mentoring Workshop and Year-long Career Mentoring Program.
#8 Be Connected
Volunteer, Network, and Introduce yourself to someone you don't know yet.
- Volunteer
- Share useful and interesting information with your colleagues via our Conference Blog.
- Follow the Conference Flow on our Conference Twitter.
#7 Be Nostalgic
- Bring a vintage ARLIS conference bag for yourself, and one (or more) to Share with a First Time Attendee.
- Dig out those old ARLIS/NA conference pins if you still have them.
- Help us pay tribute to the late Judy Hoffberg and other fondly remembered Arlisians at the Membership Meeting on Monday.
#6 Be Green
- Bring your own reusable water bottle. The Hotel has "fruit" water dispensers in the lobby and many sessions and meetings will have ice water.
#5 Be Prepared
- Bring an umbrella and share with a colleague, in case we have inclement weather, which is always a possibility in Indiana in April.
#4 Be Collegial
- Pay special attention to our First Time Attendees, our Award winners, and anyone standing alone.
- Pay very special attention to our wonderful Exhibitors, and visit them as often as possible.
- Down with Cliques! Go outside your comfort zone and talk to fellow Arlisians from other Divisions, Sections, and Discussion Groups.
#3 Be Punctual
- Start your functions on time, stick to the time allotted, be ruthless with long-winded speakers, and clear the room promptly.
- If you're going on a Tour, don't hold the group up, especially when it's time to leave.
- Be fast and efficient at the Internet Café if others are waiting.
#2 Be Courteous
- If you're blogging at the conference, be a good Arlisian.
- No Food Frenzies at the receptions, Please. (We're Librarians, remember!)
- Don't make our Exhibitors worry about coffee cups and crumbs near their exhibits. Eat fast, browse long.
- Remember to thank our generous Sponsors personally when you can.
The Number One way to be Arlisian at this year's conference is:
#1 Be Responsive
- Let your voice be heard. Ask good questions in sessions. Be active in your committees and user groups. Get involved in the society's business. Speak up at the Membership meeting. Most importantly, help out ARLIS/NA, and our Boston Colleagues, who will be hosting the 2010 ARLIS/NA conference, by filling out the conference evaluation survey, via Surveymonkey or on paper. Let them know what matters most to you in these tough economic times.
Sincerely,
Eileen Fry, Tony White, Sonja Staum and Alba Fernandez-Keys, Your 2009 Conference Co-Chairs
