Students Assess Needs of Non-English Speaking Crime Victims

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—For the past three months, members of an Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Criminal Justice class taught by Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Jospeter B. Mbuba have partnered with Crime Victim Care of Allen County, conducting a needs assessment for crime victims among refugees, immigrants, and other non-English speaking populations in the Fort Wayne area.

The semester-long service learning experience was funded by the Indiana Campus Compact and involved 13 community agencies. The class culminated in a symposium at which the students presented their findings to participants drawn from all the involved agencies, Indiana Campus Compact, and several other stakeholders.
