If you are planning to live on campus, you may want to consider one of IU’s Living-Learning Centers that have an international focus: Foster International and The Global Village!

Foster International Living-Learning Center, comprised of more than 190 students, is a coed community where American and International students live together in a supportive on-campus environment.  The community is designed to bring students from diverse backgrounds and academic interests together in a setting that promotes intercultural understanding and communication.  In recent years, the community has included students from over 20 countries from around the globe.  Foster International provides students with opportunities to participate in a range of educational, cultural, and recreational events such as: local and international service learning initiatives, outdoor adventure trips, intramural sports teams, movie nights, and cultural celebrations.  Students should have an interest in interacting daily with students and visitors from other cultures and backgrounds.

Students living at Foster International enjoy 24-hour access to newly remodeled/expanded computer lab, 4 floor lounges, air-conditioning, wireless high-speed internet, in-building laundry facilities, a variety of leadership opportunities, and interactions with special international visitors (scholars, artists, and other guests) staying in the community’s guest suite facility.

If you have questions about Foster International, please email the director, Dr. John Galuska, jgaluska@indiana.edu, or call: (812) 855-6215.

The Global Village Living Learning Center is a residence hall committed to preparing students with a broad range of international interests for life in the global world of the 21st century.  Open to all IU students, freshman through senior, the Global Village is a great place to enjoy internationally focused activities; meet faculty and others who have lived, traveled, and worked overseas; improve your foreign language skills or just talk about the world with other students who share your interest in global issues.  The ultimate mission of the Global Village is to expand student’s knowledge of world affairs and foreign languages and cultures, prepare students for travel overseas, and assist students in accessing IU’s and Bloomington’s many international resources.

The Global Village is a coed community made up of approximately 100 students.  Living in mostly double rooms, Villagers enjoy air conditioning, exclusive access to a language-computer lab, and kitchen facilities.  The building is wireless ready and there are two classrooms located in the Village where internationally focused courses are offered.  Please visit the http://www.indiana.edu/~college/global/ for more information!

If you have questions about the Global Village, please email the Assistant Director, Lauren Caldarera, lcaldare@indiana.edu, or call: (812) 855-4264.

Foster International and the Global Village are both located in Foster Quad in IU’s Northwest neighborhood, a short walk to the center of campus.  They are near the Wells Library, the Kelley School of Business, the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, the Health Center, the Academic Support Center at Briscoe, Gresham Cafeteria, the Hoosier Den and the Student Recreational Sports Center.

If you are interested in living in one of these exciting communities, remember to list them as preferences on your housing application!
