CINTAX Software

Thank you for visiting this page.  This year we are providing CINTAX as a tool to help you fulfill your tax obligations for the previous year.  CINTAX is a software application that can help international taxpayers to file their US tax forms.  It is available to all IUB students, scholars, and their dependents.

Please notice that if your finances are complicated—for example if you have investments or real estate—CINTAX may not work for you.  If students have been in the United States for more than five years, CINTAX will not be able to help you and tax rules may require you to file taxes as a US citizen.  However, you may be able to use other software designed for US citizens.  Turbo Tax is online tax software for US citizens whose income is below $25,000.

To access the CINTAX software, please log in to iStart.  In order to access the program, you must have an IU username and password.  You will be required to log in with your Indiana University network user name and then create a password for your own.

Documentation necessary to use CINTAX:

  • Current Immigration Status (see Form I-94—the white/green card in Passport)
  • US Entry and Exit Dates (see Form I-94 and Passport)
  • Form DS-2019, if J status individual
  • Form I-20, if F status individual
  • Social Security or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number
  • Address Information (i.e., Current US and Permanent Foreign Address)
  • Academic Institution or Host Sponsor Information
  • Forms W-2, 1042-S and/or 1099 (if any)
  • Any scholarship or fellowship grant letters you may have received from your academic institution or host sponsor instead of Form 1042
  • Previous years’ US tax returns (if any)
