International Education Week

International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.  This joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

The Office of International Services and Union Board are hosting the IU World’s Fare on November 11, 2009, from 5:00 to 8:00pm in the Alumni Hall of the Indiana Memorial Union.  This event is a social and educational event for the university and Bloomington communities as well as the kick-off for International Education Week which will be celebrated at IU from November 11 to November 20.

The event will open with a musical performance by the IU Steel Pan Ensemble and the Afro-Cuban Ensemble.  Nineteen international student groups will showcase their countries through elaborate displays aimed at highlighting the richness of their cultures.  Musical performances will also be part of the event along with international food prepared by the Indiana Memorial Union’s chefs based on recipes provided by the participating student groups.  A recipe book (sponsored by the IU Alumni Association) with all recipes submitted will be given to the first 450 attendees.  Admission is free; IU students will receive the first ticket free; non-students/ additional tickets can be purchased for the minimal amount of $4.00.  A ticket entitles holder to sample 8 food items.
