International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

International Education Week (IEW) celebrates the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education is part of their efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. All institutions such as universities, colleges, schools, embassies, international institutions and others interested in international education join on this worldwide celebration with programs and activities that highlight its importance. IU will celebrate IEW starting on Wednesday, November 11, with the IU World’s Fare as the kickoff event (see below for details), and continuing until Friday, November 20. A number of events and programs with an international focus will be taking place on campus and the community. For a complete listing, please visit our website.
Mark your calendar for this great event and join the fun joining this coming Wednesday, November 11, 5:00–8:00pm, at the IMU Alumni Hall. Nineteen international student groups will showcase their countries with beautiful cultural displays. Performances and delicious international dishes will be part of the event as well. IU students with ID will receive one free ticket to sample eight dishes and non-students can purchase a ticket for $4 to also sample eight dishes. This is an event that you will not want to miss! If you are applying for jobs now or in the near future and want to polish your interviewing skills, this seminar will provide you with current and very useful information. Come to the International Center on Thursday, November 12, from 7:00 to 8:30pm and learn about job interviews from the employer’s perspective, role playing, non-verbal communication and much more. This seminar is co-sponsored by the Career Development Center and the International Center.
Continuing with its goal of providing an opportunity for international students to enhance their speaking skills, the club will focus on the issue of “Overcoming Cultural Differences in Public Speaking.” If you are experiencing difficulty with class and group presentations and want to improve your speaking skills as well as your self-confidence, please consider joining us on Monday, November 9, 7:00pm at the International Center, Conference Room 107A.
The support group will cover the topic of “Diversity in America.” Issues related to different cultures among ethnic groups and geographical regions as well as conflicts that arise from cultural differences will be explored. The topic touches on important issues that affect us as international students and scholars who might be trying to make sense of US culture and looking for ways to address possible conflicts. The group will meets every Monday through December 7, 7:00pm at the International Center.
Join us this Friday, November 13, 12:00–1:00pm at the International Center for our weekly Noon Concert Series. Take a break in the day and enjoy beautiful music performed by excellent musicians from the famous Jacobs School of Music. Our guest artists this week will be counter tenor, Yasuhiko Harada, from Japan. A light lunch will follow the concert. Hope you can join us!
The International and American Student Association will be hosting this week’s Cultural Coffee Hour at the International Center on Friday, November 13 from 3:30–6:00pm. The group will have an introduction of its conversation partner program ad well as games and free food. Join us for this fun event and make new American and international friends. See you on Friday!
Joins us for this free class held at an informal and relaxed setting. Yoga will help bring your body, mind, and spirit as you find your own expression through yogic poses, breathing techniques, relaxation, and guided meditation. Class meets on Wednesdays through November 25, 7:00pm, at the International Center. Class limited to 15 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for exercising.
