Where Students Should Report:

Students need to attend one of the following Welcome Sessions in Woodburn Hall as the first step in their orientation process:

  • Friday, August 15 (9:00 AM): Undergraduates
  • Monday, August 18 (9:00 AM or 1:00 PM): Undergraduates
  • Tuesday, August 19 (9:00 AM or 1:00 PM): Graduate Students
  • Wednesday, August 20 (9:00 AM): Late arriving undergraduate and graduate students
  • Thursday, August 21 (9:00 AM): Late arriving undergraduate and graduate students
  • Friday, August 22 (9:00 AM): Late arriving undergraduate and graduate students

For later arrivals:

  • Arrival between August 22 and August 26: Report to Woodburn Hall 100 on Wednesday, August 27 at 9:00 AM for a Welcome Session.
  • Arrival on or after August 27: Report to the Office of International Services at Franklin Hall 306.
Students Must Bring the Following Items to Orientation:

Passport, Visa stamp, I-94 card, All original I-20s or DS-2019s (bring documents from previous US schools as well!), Admission letter containing university ID

Temporary Housing:

You may arrive at any time (24 hours a day) to Eigenmann Residence Hall (1900 East 10th Street) and your will be able to receive accommodations. Temporary housing costs $25 per night* and will be billed to your IU bursar account. The fee for temporary housing will be found on your bill along with your tuition and fees for your first semester at Indiana University.

If you plan to live on-campus, you will need to sign a contract either before your arrival or within your first two nights in temporary housing. Contracts must be signed at the Assignments Office, which is located at 801 North Jordan Avenue. Office hours are 8:00 am-5:00 pm weekdays. After signing the contract, you will be able to stay in temporary housing at $25 per night until you move into your assigned on-campus housing.

* If you plan to live off-campus, you will only be allowed to stay in temporary housing for a maximum of two nights for $25 per night. WARNING: If you remain beyond your 2-day limit, you will be charged $100 per night beginning the third night!

Dependents and family members of students will not be able to stay in temporary housing.

If you are planning to stay in temporary housing at Eigenmann Hall, please note that the Center Desk will be open 8:00 AM to midnight 7 days a week. If you arrive outside of regular hours you can still check in to temporary housing! You should call the on-call Resident Assistant (RA) to check in. To call the RA, dial 812-855-8581. You will get an electronic response asking you to enter the phone number from which you are calling. Enter “1#” on your key pad. The RA will then come to help you check in. If you do not have a cell phone, you may use the courtesy phone located in the circle drive at the front doors to call the RA. From the courtesy phone, dial 5-8581. Then enter the code of “1#”. Wait there for the RA to meet you at the front doors located off the circle drive off 10th street.

International Center:

If you are arriving to Bloomington prior to the start of orientation, be sure to visit the Leo R. Dowling International Center (located on campus at 111 South Jordan Avenue). Staff and volunteers will be available to answer any questions you might have, and offer suggestions of things to do and places to see. We will be sure to have coffee, tea, and light refreshments available. The Internationl Center will be open Thursday, August 14, and Friday, August 15, from 9:30 am-5:30 pm; Saturday, August 16, and Sunday, August 17, from 10:00 am to noon; Monday, August 18 to Friday, August 22, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Where to Eat:

Residence halls will officially open for fall semester on Wednesday, August 27nd, 2008. There will be limited food service available on campus until that day. Students with accepted housing contracts will be able to use their meal points beginning August 27th.

Limited dining service is available Saturday August 2nd - Tuesday, August 26th at Foster Gresham Food Court. It will be open Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Saturday to Sunday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
