Temporary Housing after Arrival

Updated October 28, 2009

This page provides information about temporary housing upon your arrival at Indiana University.  Temporary housing on the IU campus is available for international students attending orientation.  International students do not need to make reservations to stay in temporary housing.

** You are strongly encouraged to arrive afterJanuary 2, 2010.**

A limited number of spaces in floor lounges with other students will be available for anyone arriving in Bloomington before January 2, 2010.  If you arrive in Bloomington between December 18, 2009 and January 2, 2010 you may arrive at any time (24 hours a day) to Teter Residence Hall (501 North Sunrise Drive) and you will be able to receive accommodations.  Information on contacting the staff at the building if the front doors are locked will be posted on the front doors.  Please be advised: There will be no reception desk, food, or mail service during the break period.

If you arrive in Bloomington after January 2, 2010 you may arrive at any time (24 hours a day) to Eigenmann Residence Hall (1900 E. Tenth Street), and you will be able to receive accommodations.  Information on contacting the staff at the building if the front doors are locked will be posted on the front doors.

Temporary housing costs $25 per night* and will be billed to your IU bursar account along with your tuition and fees for your first semester at Indiana University.  The fee for temporary housing will be found on your bill along with your tuition and fees for your first semester at Indiana University.

If you plan to live on-campus, you will need to sign a contract either before your arrival or within your first two nights in temporary housing.  Contracts must be signed at the Assignments Office, which is located at 801 North Jordan Avenue.  Office hours are 8:00am–5:00pm weekdays.  After signing the contract, you will be able to stay in temporary housing at $25 per night until you move into your assigned on-campus housing.

** Incoming first-year undergraduate students please note the first-year undergraduate live-on requirement at Indiana University **

Please Note: You will be able to move into your assigned on-campus housing for the Spring 2010 semester on January 6, 2010.

If you will be taking the shuttle service from the Indianapolis Airport, you will need to make arrangements to arrive at Teter Residence Center.  Bloomington Shuttle stops at the IMU and Willkie Residence Hall.  Star of America stops at the IMU and Eigenmann Center.  From the IMU you can call for a taxi to take you to your accommodations.  If you ask the driver of the shuttle bus, he might make a stop at Teter or Eigenmann depending on his schedule.  However, do not plan that this will happen.

Dependents and family members of students will not be able to stay in temporary housing.  You may wish to consider the Indiana Memorial Union, which is located on the Indiana University campus, or other accommodations [pdf version] located within the city of Bloomington.

If you have any questions about temporary housing, please contact the Office of International Services.

* If you plan to live off-campus, you will only be allowed to stay in temporary housing for a maximum of two nights for $25 per night.  Warning: If you remain beyond your 2-day limit, you will be charged $100 per night beginning the third night!
