International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

⇒ Student & Scholar Advising ⇒ Students ⇒ J-1 Students ⇒ Employment Authorization
On-campus employment means simply that you are paid by Indiana University, and the work must occur on the premises of Indiana University, and you may be employed in a student hourly position or an assistantship.
Full-time students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year.
You would be eligible to work more than 20 hours per week when the university is not in session (Spring Break, summer vacation and winter break).
In order to be eligible for on-campus employment, you must:
How do I receive work authorization?
At the beginning of the Fall Semester, you will receive an email message from intlserv@indiana.edu, providing you with your work authorization. The email message will indicate how long the authorization is valid. You will need to keep that email message as evidence of your authorization.
If you begin your program of study in the Spring Semester or Summer session, you will receive your email message after you attend the orientation program.
You will only be eligible to begin working once you receive this email message.
Note: If you would wish to work more than 20 hours per week on campus, and the work is in your major field of study and is an integral/critical part of your academic program, please read our information about Academic Training.
Attention! If your DS-2019 is not issued through IU, you must discuss with your program sponsor to find out if you can apply for on campus work!
