Letter from the President

January 2009

Dear InULA members,

Despite what the calendar tells us, here we are with nearly half an InULA year under our belt. I don’t know about you, but as for me, it’s hard to believe that I am just about midway through my InULA presidency. It seems, then, that this would be a good opportunity to update you all on the happenings thus far this year and the Board’s plans for the remainder of the year.

At last May’s business meeting, members expressed an interest in more social programs, where we would have an opportunity to actually get to know our colleagues. Apparently, all you had to do was ask because Julie Hardesty, chair of the Social and Program Committee, was ready for you! She and the committee responded enthusiastically by offering up two bowling events, two hiking trips, outings to the Oliver Winery and the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and our fabulous December luncheon. Look elsewhere in this issue of Notes for pictures and details of upcoming events.

Mark your calendars for InULA’s major fundraiser, the InULA Book Sale! It is scheduled for April 18 and 19th. Bloomington members, please keep an eye on your inboxes, as the Book Sale Committee will undoubtedly be calling for volunteers to sort books and help staff the sale.

Membership numbers are comparable to last year, but we know there are still many of our colleagues who are not yet members. Not only are they missing out on some wonderful programs and camaraderie, but they also pass up the chance for *free* money through InULA’s Research Incentive Grant. This is my challenge to you: Before our May business meeting, recruit at least one colleague to InULA. It’s cheap and easy and can be your good deed for the semester. Just point them to the membership form on our web site: http://www.indiana.edu/~inula/members/index.html

Speaking of web site, our webmaster, Jian Liu, just may have the fastest fingers in HPER, as he keeps the InULA web site (http://www.indiana.edu/~inula) as current as it can be. Have a question or want to peruse some of InULA’s historical documents? Take a look, the answer could very likely be there.

Please remember that InULA is here for YOU and can only function with your assistance and input. If you have any questions or comments - good or bad - please contact either myself or another board member. I think you will find the Board to be very responsive to your concerns and eager to keep InULA relevant to Indiana University’s librarians.

Until next time,

Dina Kellams
InULA President
