Welcome to IPLACC

The Indiana Project for Latin American Cultural Competency (IPLACC) was launched in response to recent demographic trends in Indiana. Between 1995 and 2005, Indiana experienced an explosive increase in Latino residents, making it the state with the fourth fastest growth rate of language minority students in the country. This new influx has brought new challenges and opportunities to schools and communities around the region. IPLACC aims to help schools and communities by:

  • improving educators' and citizens' understanding of Latin American culture and society in order to develop their cultural competencies for integrating Latin American immigrants;
  • improving the average citizen's understanding of Latin America in order to facilitate more effective economic and social exchanges in a globalizing world.
