Charles Reafsnyder's interest in international education and development began with a childhood lived abroad and continued through an undergraduate honors degree in Comparative Politics and African Studies at IU. Following graduation, Charles joined the Peace Corps and served three years in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) social studies curriculum developer for the FSM's system of 20 high schools. Upon return to the US, he entered Indiana University where he earned a Ph.D. in Anthropology with a focus on applied anthropology and the anthropology of education. For the next nine years, he held several positions in International Programs at IU including Director of Administration for a $50 million higher education project in Malaysia for which Indiana University was the lead university in a consortium of Big Ten universities. In 1994, Charles became IU's Associate Dean for International Research and Development and CIEDA's Director. In this capacity, he has developed and managed more than a dozen major technical assistance and international education projects with grants from USAID, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State, host country governments, and international foundations. | |
