The South East European University (SEEU), a new trilingual, multi-ethnic international university, opened in 2001 in Tetovo, Macedonia.  Sponsored and financed by USAID and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, it is the first official university in Macedonia to offer courses in Albanian.  IU and the Indiana Consortium for International Programs received an initial three-year USAID award for the US-Macedonia Linkage. In fall 2004 CIEDA was awarded a second USAID grant to continue its work at SEEU.

The major objectives of the program are to promote economic development of the Tetovo region through the introduction of modern curricula in fields such as Business, Public Administration, Education and Communications; to provide administrative support and training to SEEU; to establish ESL and Computer Literacy programs; to introduce service learning concepts into the curriculum; and to help to establish a multi-lingual, multi-ethnic international perspective at SEEU.

The grant activities include faculty exchange, degree fellowships, administrative training, distance education, library and technology development.
