An
undergraduate "twinning program" in which Malaysian
government-sponsored students enrolled in Malaysia in Indiana
University courses offered by US faculty.
In this program, Indiana University had the lead management
role for a consortium of major Midwestern research universities.
-
US
and local faculty provided intensive English language instruction
that brought students' language ability to the level of competence
required for university study.
Students then took the first two years of undergraduate
instruction in pre-engineering, pre-business, and computer science
courses in Malaysia from
IU-approved faculty.
-
Once
students successfully completed the initial two years of course
work, they transferred with IU's placement assistance (and IU
transcripts) to more than 160 universities throughout the US to
complete bachelor's degree programs.
-
Through
this program CIEDA placed more than 500 graduates per year and a
total of more than 4,000 sponsored transfer students into upper
division US programs.
