In
2000, the IU Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS)
received a grant from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of
the US Department of State. The
grant establishes a university linkage program with the Universidad
Centroamericana in Nicaragua on issues of land, minority rights, and the
environment. At IU, the program involves, CLACS, the School of Law and
the Center for the Study of Institutions, Populations, and Environmental
