When international scholars and students attend programs at Indiana University, they become part of an academic community which is widely known for the high quality and variety of its programs. IU faculty have been awarded every major national and international prize including the Nobel, Pulitzer, Oscar, and Emmy Awards, as well as major research grants from the National Science, Ford,

IU-Bloomington’s campus includes 75 research centers and institutes;

Research facilities include two observatories, a geological research station, state-of-the-art laboratories in physical chemistry and molecular biology, access to super-computers and high-speed networking facilities, and centers for research into environmental changes, biomechanics, economic development, cognitive science, survey research, semiotics, transportation,
urban policy, law, religion, and philanthropy, as well as numerous areas in medicine;

Scientific strengths are especially noted in the areas of astronomy and astrophysics, molecular biology, physical chemistry, medicine, psychology, cognitive science, and applied mathematics;

Medical researchers have conducted pioneering research on Alzheimer's disease, AIDS, diabetes, heart problems, arthritis, and alcoholism. Medical School faculty were among the first to perform kidney,
liver, cornea, bone marrow, and pancreas transplants on adults, as well as heart and liver transplants on newborns and infants;

IU's 200-million-volt cyclotron is being modified for use as a Proton Therapy Center for the treatment of macular degeneration (an eye disorder) and prostate cancer, one of only three such centers in the United States;

IU is one of only a handful ot US public universities with as many as nine federally supported international studies centers. Six international and area studies programs at IU have achieved recognition as National Resources Centers:
Russian and Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Central Eurasia, East Asia, Africa, and International Studies;

Bloomington’s Main Library, with a collection of more than 5.5 million bound volumes, is ranked 13th in size among the 133 university research libraries in the United States;

Bloomington's Lilly Library of rare books, the nationally acclaimed IU Art Museum, the Mather's Museum of World Cultures, and the Archives of Traditional Music, as well as other specialized collections on all eight IU campuses
contribute to IU's ranking as one of the top US sources for scholarship in the social sciences and humanities.
