(or, "GLM, your new BFF")
Tuesdays, September 27 & October 4, 4 - 6 pm (Ballantine 118)
Instructor: Stephanie Dickinson, ISCC
Registration required, $10 fee
The General Linear Model (GLM) is the umbrella covering a majority of the statistical analyses used in research: T-tests, ANOVA, ANCOVA, Repeated Measures, Regression, and Linear “Mixed” Models (a.k.a Hierarchical Linear Models (HLM)). But how do they all fit together, and how are they used and abused?
This four-hour workshop (split into two sessions) will cover an overview of how these models are related and when you’ll want to transition from one to another. We will walk through a description of each type of model, including what type of data it applies to, what format the data should be in, model assumptions, basic software procedures (SPSS, SAS, R), and interpreting results.
Prerequisites
It is recommended that students will have had at least one introductory statistics course to have basic familiarity with statistical concepts. Also, basic familiarity with a software package such as SPSS, SAS, or R will make the examples easier to follow, but we will not go into the software in detail.
Fees
The fee for the workshop is $10 total, which includes admission to both 2-hour sessions.
Payment
Fees are payable through an IU student Bursar account. You must indicate agreement to this charge on your registration form.
Confirmation
You will receive a confirmation email for your reservation (or notification of wait-list status) to your IU email account within 2 business days after submitting the online form. If you have not received an email after two days, please email (iscc@indiana.edu).
Arrival
Names will be checked against the registration list at the door. Last-minute reservations may be made at the door if space is available.
Wait-list
The first 35 registrants will reserve a seat in the lab, and the remaining registrants will be added to the wait-list and notified if/when seats become available.
Cancellations
If you must cancel before the workshop, email us (iscc@indiana.edu) 24 hours before the first session, and your Bursar account will not be charged. This will allow us to offer your place to someone on the wait-list. Fees will not be refunded for "no-shows", and partial refunds will not be given if you are only able to attend one of the sessions.
