Stata is a powerful statistical software package for data analysis, data management, and publication-quality graphics. It is widely used across social science disciplines including but not limited to sociology, economics and political science.
Stata uses a combination of programming syntax and "point-and-click" user-interface making it more-user friendly for new users with the flexibility of more complicated programming where desired.
This four-hour workshop (split into two sessions) will introduce a range of Stata’s capabilities, from the very basic features to more complicated commands. The instructions will be hands-on, allowing participants to explore Stata with and without the instructor. Specifically, during the first two-hour session, participants will become familiar with the Stata environment, essential elements and language structure. Additionally, basic commands for loading, exploring and manipulating data will be covered.
The second session will mainly focus on data analysis using Stata, including descriptive statistics and regression, data visualization and automation (if time permits).Prerequisites
This workshop assumes no prior knowledge of Stata. Some prior knowledge of statistics is helpful, but not required.
Fees
The fee for the workshop is $10 total, which includes admission to both 2-hour sessions.
Payment
Fees are payable through an IU Student Account or an IU Faculty Research Account.
Confirmation
You will receive a confirmation email for your reservation (or notification of wait-list status) to your IU email account within 2 business days after submitting the online form. If you have not received an email after two days, please email (iscc@indiana.edu).
Arrival
Names will be checked against the registration list at the door. Last-minute reservations may be made at the door if space is available.
Wait-list
The first 50 registrants will reserve a seat in the lab, and the remaining registrants will be added to the wait-list and notified if/when seats become available.
Cancellations
If you must cancel before the workshop, email us (iscc@indiana.edu) 24 hours before the first session, and your Bursar account will not be charged. This will allow us to offer your place to someone on the wait-list. Fees will not be refunded for "no-shows", and partial refunds will not be given if you are only able to attend one of the sessions.
