Projections of Faith: Documenting Religious Culture on Film
The Victoria Press seeks essays on the subject of documentary films and filmmaking which focus on the culture of religion and the experiences of adherents for inclusion in an anthology entitled Projections of Faith: Documenting Religious Culture on Film, for release in the summer of 2009. Many films have recently been released which enhance the discussion of religious culture and those who subscribe to certain religions, such as Sandi Simcha DuBowski’s Trembling Before G-d, Heidi Ewing’s and Rachel Grady’s Jesus Camp, and Zarqa Nawaz’s Me and the Mosque. This anthology serves to fill a need for an academic treatment of the subject of the documentation of religious culture on film.
Essays should be scholarly in nature and authors should hold a current professorial post in a related area of study such as sociology, anthropology, religion, cultural studies, psychology, etc. Special attention will be given to professors who have engaged in making films related to the subject of religious culture. Authors are also responsible for securing any clearances necessary for inclusion of film stills in this anthology.
