Biography
Laura Plummer directs the Campus Writing Program, which consults with faculty and administers Writing Tutorial Services (WTS), IU’s writing center. Through individual consultation about course and assignment design, Laura assists faculty and instructors to use writing to teach and to grade equitably, effectively, and efficiently. Her office conducts departmental and course-specific workshops on these topics, and presents at national conferences on writing-across-the-curriculum, writing center, and writing-in-the-disciplines issues. In addition, Laura teaches a yearly practicum for the undergraduates who tutor at WTS, and the occasional intensive writing course. She holds a doctorate in 19th century literature from the IU English department, from which she also received a Noyes Fellowship for outstanding teaching.
Since 1999, Laura has also coordinated Faculty 2000, a program in the Dean of the Faculties Office aimed at easing new IU faculty members’ transition into the IU/Bloomington community. In the Bloomington community itself, Laura has volunteered for Middle Way House, Bloomington’s rape crisis center and domestic violence shelter, and is a member of the Lotus Education and Arts Foundation board of director.
