The OCR Rocket Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Document

Can I run other applications on the computer when OCR Rocket is processing files with Kurzweil 3000?

No. OCR Rocket send commands to Kurzweil 3000 by simulating typed characters and then it monitors how busy the computer's processor is to tell when Kurzweil 3000 has finished. Because of this, the OCR Rocket program requires dedicated use of the computer it is running on while it is processing files. Otherwise, the keystrokes it sends out might go to the wrong application or it might get confused as to the state the Kurzweil 3000 program is in. This also means that any active screen savers should be disabled and the computer must not be locked.

Why is OCR Rocket ignoring my OCRRocket.ini file?

The OCRRocket.ini file must be located in the same folder as the OCRRocket.exe program file. Also, if you are using a Windows OS with the NTFS file system, you must make sure the user running the OCR Rocket has enough access rights to allow them read access on the OCRRocket.ini file. In case there are multiple copies of the OCR Rocket on your computer, make sure the OCRRocket.ini file is in the folder of the copy you are executing.

Also, be aware that configuration changes made with the "Options" dialog box are loaded after the OCRRocket.ini file is processed and take priority over the OCRRocket.ini file's settings. To prevent "Option" dialog setting changes from taking effect, set the "AllowUserSavedSettings" and "AllowSettingsDialog" properties to "0" in the "General" section of the OCRRocket.ini file.

Can I use OCR Rocket and Kurzweil 3000 to process color TIFF files?

Yes, but it you need to use Kurzweil 3000 Version 6.0+ to do so.

Why can't I use Kurzweil 3000 4.0 or earlier with OCR Rocket?

OCR Rocket uses keystrokes to access the menu and there are bugs in Kurzweil 3000 4.0 that prohibit accessing the save menu functions using keystrokes while a file is open. An update use to be available free from their website that updated version 4.0 to version 4.01 and fixed this bug. The update might still be available from Kurzweil 3000.

I'm using Windows NT 4.0 and OCR Rocket won't find any folders to process. Why?

This program is written with Visual BASIC 6.0 (SP5). If the program fails to list directories that contain unprocessed TIFF files, then you may have to update the DLL files on your system. This problem has been noticed on older NT 4.0 installations. Be sure to use SP6a or greater on NT 4.0!

Why can't I run OCR Rocket on Windows 98 or Windows ME?

This program relies on the file "pdh.dll" to can access the CPU Usage information from the system. The pdh.dll file only works with Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows XP operating systems. It should be located in the "%SYSTEMROOT%\system32" directory. It MUST be the pdh.dll dated 7/21/2000 or later.
