Sample Schedules

IU freshmen typically take four to six courses—about 15 credit hours—per semester. Because IU’s flat tuition fee covers 12 to 17 credit hours per semester, many students take 17 credit hours, which can be as few as four courses or as many as eight.

These sample freshman schedules show 14 to 16 hours a week in class and leave long stretches of time open for studying, hanging out with friends, working out, and student activities. When you arrive for New Student Orientation in the summer, your academic advisor will help you put together a schedule that works for you.
