Guidance Counselor Newsletter
We hope everyone's school year has gotten off to a great start! As always, we are here for you and your students if you have any general questions or any concerns related to the new scholarship review process or new required application personal statement. You can call the Office of Admissions at (812) 855-0661 or contact your school's representative directly.
Admission and Scholarship Updates
Apply now! We are already admitting students for fall 2014 and will review students' materials as soon as their applications are complete. Students who apply early will learn much quicker if they are admitted and if they are eligible for scholarships. Students who meet the November 1 deadline can also submit updated test scores through January 15 for additional scholarship consideration.
November 1 scholarship deadline: Please make sure your students know that November 1 is the deadline for maximum scholarship consideration; this means all application materials must be received and/or postmarked by this date. November 1 is also the first priority deadline for admission. Students can see the application priority dates as well as the dates by which they should receive a decision on the Priority Dates page.
Senior class schedules: Students are now asked to list their senior classes when they complete the application. However, we are seeing many students who are only supplying their fall classes and we need to know all senior year courses. If students are taking the same classes in the fall and spring semesters, they need to list their courses and then check the "fall" and "spring" boxes.
Hoosier Link update: The Hoosier Link program is a guaranteed admission program implemented through a cooperative agreement between IU Bloomington and Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington. The 2014-15 cohort has limited space and admission to the program is competitive. More information is at hoosierlink.indiana.edu.
Entering class profile: The fall 2013 freshman class has the highest average SAT in school history with 1217 (up almost 16 points from last year). The total freshman class size of 7,604 just missed last year's record enrollment by nine students. The middle 50% ranges are below:
- GPA: 3.4-4.0
- SAT: 1110-1320
- ACT: 24-30
Welcome Week update: Move In Day was August 21 so the campus is bustling once again. As always, the Office of First Year Experience did a great job planning Welcome Week activities to help everyone get acclimated and feel that Hoosier spirit. Some of our favorites are Traditions & Spirit, CultureFest, and New Student Service Day.
U.S. News rankings: In this year's U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges edition, IU Bloomington ranks 31st among public research universities. The Kelley School of Business continues to rank 2nd in the Big Ten and 6th among public universities.
The big dig near Admissions: Ground has been broken on the new School of Global and International Studies, which will be located just up the hill from the Office of Admissions. Work is also continuing on the Kelley School of Business. Pardon our mess if you come to campus and allow extra time!
Fall sports update: All the fall sports teams have taken the field, including the defending national championship men's soccer team! Keep up-to-date with the Hoosiers all season at www.iuhoosiers.com.
Thank you for all that you do!
