Happy retirement Mary Ellen

As some of you may already know, Mary Ellen Anderson, Director of Admissions, will soon be starting the next chapter of her life and retiring from the university. The official day is August 1--no word yet on any big plans for the future! A retirement reception is planned for June 26, 4:00-6:00 p.m., at IU's Henke Hall of Champions. Please contact Cindy Wise if you can join us in celebrating Mary Ellen.

Campus Blooms

Indiana University and Bloomington are blooming! Check out the campus photos on the IU Admissions Instagram site.

Final Transcripts

Please send a final, official transcript for each student who will be attending IU Bloomington this fall to the Office of Admissions as soon as it is available. Transcripts will be reviewed to ensure students have maintained high levels of academic performance and completed all courses required for admission. Also, students will not be able to register for the spring semester if we do not receive their final, official high school transcripts.

Summer Visits

Summer is a great time to visit Indiana University. There is less traffic, but the campus is still lively with students taking classes, summer camps, and New Student Orientation. Reservations are required for daily tours and info sessions. Students can sign up on our visit page and take our NEW virtual tour before they arrive.

Summer 2013

As the school year winds down, we want to thank you again for your patience throughout the year as we implemented a new processing system. We also want to provide you with some important information for students who will be applying for fall 2014, as some big changes are planned in both the admission and scholarship awarding processes. We will update the Admissions and Scholarship websites during the summer once all changes are finalized.

Admission and Scholarship Updates

Fall 2014 application and priority dates: The application for students applying for fall 2014 will be available on August 1. Students can now see the NEW application priority dates as well as the dates by which they should receive an admission decision on the Priority Dates page.

Personal statement: For students applying for fall 2014, a personal statement will be required as part of the application. Students will be asked to share information about their backgrounds and experiences that may not be readily available from the application or supporting documents. The personal statement is also each student's opportunity to share any special circumstances related to his/her academic performance and/or interest in IUB. The limit is 300 words.

Application fee: For students applying for fall 2014, the application fee will increase to $60. Students applying to the Jacobs School of Music will pay a combined IUB/Jacobs fee of $140.

Fee waivers: Any student who has requested a fee waiver on his/her application for admission will need to have the appropriate form submitted to complete the application. We will accept the same form used to request a fee waiver for the ACT or SAT or the NACAC form.

Scholarships: New scholarship criteria will be released this summer for students applying for fall 2014. Please visit the Office of Scholarships website regularly or follow IU Admissions or Scholarships via social media so you will be among the first to know when the new criteria are made public (we are anticipating a mid-summer release date). We do know the following:

  • The priority deadline for admission and maximum merit scholarship consideration is November 1, 2013. Only eligible students who submit a completed application for admission by the November 1 date will be considered for an invitation to apply for Selective Scholarships.
  • The University will continue to value and reward academic achievement, and there will continue to be scholarship consideration based on a student's application for admission.

Test scores: Students who are applying for admission need to have official scores sent directly from the testing agencies. We cannot consider test scores provided by students or by high schools.

Campus News

IU graduates its 184th class: On May 4, IU awarded 8,880 degrees to 8,590 students from every county in Indiana, every state in the US, and 127 countries.

Hoosier baseball is Omaha bound: After winning both the Big Ten regular season and tournament, the baseball team has advanced to the College World Series. This is the first appearance for IU at the event and the first time a Big Ten team has reached the Series since 1984.

Five faculty members awarded the Guggenheim: The faculty, all professors in the College of Arts and Sciences, received the prestigious fellowship for 2013.

New baseball and softball fields: IU Softball's Andy Mohr Field was dedicated on April 23, and IU Baseball's Bart Kaufman Field followed on April 26.
