At IU, you will find so many valuable ways to extend your classroom
learning and broaden your academic experiences. Study abroad in places
like Australia and Japan, live in a learning community, take a freshman
seminar, conduct research with a professor, complete an internship, plan
your own degree program, or take honors classes.
Direct Admission
If you already know exactly what you want to study and have a strong
high school record, it is possible to be admitted directly into some of
IU's undergraduate schools. The College of Arts and Sciences, the Kelley School of Business, the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation,
the School of Informatics, the School of Journalism, and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs all offer
direct admission programs. Similarly, students who complete the
application and audition process for the Jacobs
School of Music are admitted directly into the school.
While most freshmen begin their studies in the University
Division and later apply to their major area of study, direct
admission allows eligible students to get an early start on their major
course work. Students who are eligible for direct admission, based on
their application for admission, will be notified.

Intensive Freshman Seminars
Intensive
Freshman Seminars is an optional three-week program that takes place
just before the start of your first semester on campus. You will live in a
residence hall, earn college credit, study with top professors in small
classes, make friends with students from across the country, and become
familiar with campus life and college expectations before the fall
semester even begins. Many of the seminars conclude with the start of the
fall semester, however several transition into learning communities that
continue throughout your freshman year.

Learning Communities
Our learning communities are located
throughout the residence halls and give you the opportunity to live,
learn, travel, study, and have fun with other students who share your
academic and social interests. There are more than 100 interest-based
communities ranging from outdoor adventure to international business to
Jewish studies.
