How to Apply

Note for Fall 2008: Due to the large volume of applications received this year, April 1 is the date by which applications for freshman admission must be received or postmarked with supporting documents received by April 11.

There are two ways to apply to IU:

  1. Online Application: It's easy to use and secure, plus it gives you immediate confirmation that we've received your application.
  2. Paper Application: If you prefer to use a paper application, you can download the application now or request that a copy be sent to you.

Admission Checklist

We know applying to college can seem like a daunting process. That's why IU makes it as easy as possible. Use this checklist to make sure you don't miss a step:

  • Review our admission standards and priority dates.

  • Apply online or on paper. We encourage you to use the Online Application, but all application methods are treated equally in the evaluation process.

  • Submit the application fee. Our application fee is $50 ($60 for international students). If you apply online, you will pay the fee by credit card. If you apply on paper, you can submit a check or money order.

  • Get your counselor's signature. Your high school counselor will need to complete the counselor section of your application. If you apply online, print the Counselor Signature Form (PDF, 97 KB) and bring it to your counselor.

  • Submit your high school transcript. We must receive a current, official transcript directly from your high school.

  • Submit your SAT/ACT scores. All applicants must complete either the SAT I or the ACT. When you register for a test, make sure to ask that your score be sent to IU Bloomington. IU's SAT code is 1324 and our ACT code is 1210.

  • Check your application status. You can check your application status online and see if any of the required credentials are missing from your file.

  • Await your admission decision. We practice rolling admissions and each application is carefully reviewed by our admissions counselors, beginning in early fall. You can expect to hear from us three to six weeks after we receive your completed application, fee, transcript, and test score(s).
