With classes, friends, food, and academic resources all within walking
distance, your residence hall will quickly become your home away from
home. IU is known for its sense of community, and you'll find our
residence halls to be comfortable, fun, close-knit community
environments.
Residency Requirement
First-year students live on campus at IU. This is our policy because we
know students who live in our residence halls do better in their classes,
stay in school and graduate at a higher rate, are actively involved on
campus, and get the most out of their college experience.
For more information on the requirement, including information on
exemptions for those who live within 25 miles of campus, are over the age
of 21, or have other medical or extenuating circumstances, review our
official residency requirement policy.
Costs & Money-Saving Options
Because our housing rates vary by room type, location, and learning community, and from year-to-year, it's very difficult to provide specific cost information. However, to help with your planning, the cost of the most prevalent room and board plan for the 2007–2008 academic year is between $6,138 and $7,860. More detailed housing rate information is available from Residential Programs and Services.
There are several money-saving housing options available to our residents,
ranging
from scholarship programs to cooperative living to employment
opportunities. Contact Residential Programs and Services for more
information.
