Athletics & Sports

Follow the Hoosiers and our varsity teams, participate in our nationally recognized recreational sports program, work out in our state-of-the-art recreation centers, play intramurals, or take a morning paddle on Lake Lemon. Whatever your choice, if you're a sport enthusiast, IU is the place for you.

Big Ten Athletics

IU's 24 varsity teams give our fans more than 180 home events to cheer at each year. You will not find greater enthusiasm than a crowd of Hoosier fans. You can sign up to purchase season tickets to football and men's basketball, and most other sporting events are free.

Fitness and Wellness

IU's recreational sports facilities include three indoor pools and diving wells, an outdoor pool and sun deck, several gymnasiums, strength circuits, indoor and outdoor tracks, jogging paths, weight rooms, a sauna, aerobics and indoor cycling studios, and basketball, tennis, badminton, squash, racquetball, and sand volleyball courts. We offer more than 80 group exercise and mind-body sessions, ranging from yoga and Pilates to step aerobics and Kickbo, which take place from six in the morning to ten at night.

Intramurals and Club Sports

Whether you're into roller hockey, rowing, or rugby, we've got it here for you. IU sponsors more than 32 intramural sports and 50 club sports. Put together your own intramural team or join a club and compete against off-campus opponents.

IU Outdoor Adventures

If outdoor pursuits are your thing, you'll love IU Outdoor Adventures. Get your friends together and sign up to go backpacking, rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, or skydiving. Our long-distance trips go to the California coast and the Florida Keys, while our local excursions visit Bloomington’s Lake Monroe and the hidden caverns of southern Indiana. IU Outdoor Adventures helped IU place in Outside magazine's top 10 list of schools that "turn out smart grads with top-notch academic credentials, a healthy environmental ethos, and an A+ sense of adventure."
