Admission Standards

Admission to IU Bloomington as a permanent intercampus transfer student is selective. The following standards, as set by IU's University Division, should help you assess your credentials for admission. Please note admission is to IU Bloomington, not necessarily a particular major or degree program.

Students Who Previously Applied to IU Bloomington and Were Admitted

  1. You must have completed either no academic credit hours at an IU campus, or you must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average in the IU courses you have completed at the time of application. There is not a minimum number of academic credit hours required.
  2. Students who are admitted to IU Bloomington as permanent intercampus transfers must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the time of their IU orientation date and the first day of classes. Failure to meet this criterion may affect the admission decision.

Students Who Previously Applied to IU Bloomington and Were Denied

  1. You must have completed at least 12 academic credit hours at an IU campus and have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average in those courses at the time of application.
  2. Students enrolled under conditional acceptance must fulfill all conditional requirements before applying as an intercampus transfer student.
  3. Students who are admitted to IU Bloomington as permanent intercampus transfers must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the time of their IU orientation date and the first day of classes. Failure to meet this criterion may affect the admission decision.

Students Who Have Not Previously Applied to IU Bloomington

If you have not completed at least 12 academic credit hours at an IU campus, the following admission standards apply:

  1. In some cases, if the student’s eligibility for initial admission to IU cannot be determined by the admission records at the current campus, an official high school transcript may be required. You can review our freshman admission standards to determine your initial eligibility.
    • If the determination is made that the student would not have been admissible, he or she must have completed at least 12 academic credit hours at an IU campus and have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average in those courses at the time of application in order to be eligible for admission.

If you have completed 12 or more academic credit hours at an IU campus, the following admission standards apply:

  1. You must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average in the IU courses you have completed at the time of application.
